Here comes a special tribute to Hamburg’s dub and sound system history of the ’90s – an important chapter for dub and reggae music in Germany as a whole. One of the local veterans, Pensi, also known as the man behind Ire Hi-Fi, collaborates with Dub Me Ruff at the Sound Navigator Studio. The result is an unearthed gem from that era titled “Generation Of Change.”
Back in the ’90s, the infamous “Dub Me Ruff System” mixtape was heavily circulated on cassettes by fans and collectors. It featured a vocal cut and one dub version. At the time, dances were the only way to hear this tune. Fast forward to today, and we’ve managed to connect directly with Pensi. He graciously dug into his archives, unearthing the original DAT tapes and some lost mixes. Now, we’re thrilled to present this ’90s salute, freshly remastered and cut on a 12-inch vinyl at Star Delta in the UK.
The album includes the vocal version plus three wonderful dub excursions crafted by Danielle ‘Yell’ Mommertz. With each mix, she cranks up the effects from “gentle” to “Iration style.”
The lyrics remain incredibly relevant today, almost 30 years after they were written. It’s a powerful message set against an uncompromising roots riddim à la Dub Me Ruff.
