Jah Life unearthed a hidden treasure from the early ’80s with Peter Ranking’s “Love Up,” an unreleased cut now available on 7″ vinyl. Known for his vocal work rather than the deejay style of the other Peter Ranking, this release gives reggae fans a rare taste of a roots era sound that had only been heard on dubplates played by Volcano Sound in Jamaica and Jah Life in New York.

On the A-side, “Love Up” brings a soulful vibe, layered over a solid rhythm track powered by the Roots Radics and crafted during the Scientist/King Tubby dub golden days. With a smooth delivery and a groove that captures that classic, unfiltered dancehall spirit, Peter Ranking’s vocals shine, backed by a rhythm that defines the raw energy of the time.
